Behind the name “Harras Pharma Curarina Arzneimittel GmbH” stand two group-independent pharmaceutical companies that are specialised in herbal medicines and are run today by a pharmacist family:
- the production company Gehrlicher Pharmazeutische Extrakte GmbH in Eurasburg (south of Munich)
- the sales company Harras Pharma Curarina Arzneimittel GmbH in Munich.
The two companies work closely together in the areas of production, development, approval, sale and distribution of natural medicinal products at home and abroad.

1977
Takeover of the Harras pharmacy in Munich
The company history begins in 1977 with the takeover of the Harras pharmacy. The first products were developed in the pharmacy and registered with the Federal Health Office (today BfArM).
1984
From pharmacy to pharmaceutical Manufacturer
The industrial production and sale of the own brands at home and abroad began with the foundation of Harras Pharma Curarina Arzneimittel GmbH.

Takeover of the production company Gehrlicher Pharmazeutische Extrakte GmbH in Eurasburg (south of Munich)
The high demand for the mainly herbal products was the reason why the company started producing itself. This meant that the value-added chain from the development to approval, production and sale was all under one roof. The company Gehrlicher Extrakte had been founded in 1964, and was already looking back at long years of experience in the production of extracts. On top of its own requirements, today Gehrlicher exports a wide range of special extracts as medical active ingredients (Drug Master File) to the manufacturers of herbal medicinal products in 53 countries. Production of alcohol-free herbal extracts for the first time
Gehrlicher Extrakte has special expertise in the manufacture of alcohol-free special herbal extracts. Of particular importance are the thyme and ivy extracts which are still produced in large quantities for the children’s cough syrups of well-known brands.

Success story: Traumaplant® pain cream with comfrey extract
This comfrey extract is full of know-how: from the cultivation of the plant (patented trauma comfrey), the optimisation of the cultivation method and the harvest, to production and clinical testing was a long, hard road. But the will to succeed and sound pharmaceutical know-how paid off in the end. The company succeeded in developing a pain cream proven in many clinical studies for use on blunt injuries, bruising and sprains. It is worth pointing out the very good tolerability of the highly dosed comfrey extract which is free of pyrrolizidine alkaloids and other toxics so that Traumaplant® can even be applied to open abrasions. Patenting of the hintonia extract as antidiabetic
The hintonia plant is traditionally taken in Mexico as an infusion against diabetes and digestion problems. In 2010 Gehrlicher Extrakte managed to patent the hintonia dry extract in Europe. In Germany hintonia is available under the brand name Sucontral® D for diet management in cases of diabetes. Sucontral® D has been selling successfully in the USA and Canada since 2015…

Sensicutan® cream – the cortisone-free alternative for eczema, itching and neurodermatitis
Sensicutan® cream is also an own development based on the combination of the active ingredients alpha-bisabolol and heparin. Reapproval was granted in 2015. This frees the path for further export activities. Alongside Germany, Sensicutan® cream is already approved as a medicinal product in Austria, Switzerland and Peru, and in some cases already on sale there. More countries to follow…

Patenting of a special propolis extract against Herpes
Under the brand name Herpetino® cream, the medicinal product based on propolis special extract is exported to Peru, Slovakia, Czech Republic and England. Further countries are planned.

Introduction of Glycowohl® in Germany
Out-licensing of the product Glycowohl® to the pharmaceutical company Heilpflanzenwohl GmbH in Berlin. Contract manufacturing is carried out by Gehrlicher Extrakte GmbH in Eurasburg.

Extension of the production for further growth
The construction of a new building for a laboratory and tincture production are the entrepreneurial response to the constantly growing demand for special herbal extracts in pharmaceutical quality. This investment in the future allows the uncompromising further development of the business with pharmaceutical herbal extracts and approved phytotherapeutics all over the world.
